What is the least expensive method of transporting your car across country?
I am moving from Ventura, CA to Chicago, IL. I need to move my car but don’t want to drive it as I can’t be off of work for that long. What is the cheapest way to transport your car. And do you know of a good company who transports with that method.

Well you could pay me.. It would cost you the fuel and milage on my truck. $ 750.00 Then for my time..4 days $ 750.00.. So I would say the minumum somebody would haul it out for would be $1500.00.. (not offering just giving you a price) If you hired somebody to drive it, the gas out and their time and a plane ticket back (if they wanted to come back) .. Then there is hauling companies that will add your car to a trailer full of other cars, I don’t know what they charge but I am sure they can haul it cheeper than I could… But with profits the way they are these days who knows.. On a train???

Cheapest way to get a friend to drive it for you, if you’ll pay the gas to get it to Chicago and the airfare back to Ventura.

2070 miles about. I’d give you a break and do it for $2.50 a mile and a $65 hookup, and eat the drive back. That would be $5,240, in advance.

Look under auto-transport companies in the phone book. Should run you about $800-$1000 for an open truck, about double for a closed truck.

They have listings for show car transporters, but those guys take regular vehicles too – especially if they are dead heading anyway.

Shop around – don’t take the first quote. Make sure you keep your car insured.

You might get a volume discount if you are looking to charter that many times. In fact, you should contact a charter operator about a crewed a/c lease for the time period you will be transporting these guests. It will be cheaper than a flight to flight charter.

Contact these S.D. & L.A. area charter operators for a quote. (You won't get the true cost for your needs via this forum- you need to go straight to the horses mouth and see what the operator is willing to do for your group.)
